The General Department of National Police of Cambodia has issued an "ultimatum" demanding that individuals or organizations that post advertisements promoting online gambling on the internet must remove all related content by December 10, or they will be legally prosecuted.
In a notice issued today, the General Department of National Police emphasized: "The deadline set by the General Department of National Police is December 10, 2024, requiring all relevant persons to delete information related to online gambling. If anyone continues to engage in illegal activities, the General Department of National Police will take legal action."
The phenomenon of online gambling groups using celebrities and internet influencers to attract the public to participate in online gambling is severe. On December 4, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sok An, announced a ban, explicitly prohibiting any individual or organization from producing, publishing, or sharing content related to gambling through social media, traditional media, or other channels, especially promoting gambling websites and social media accounts.
The Ministry of Interior pointed out that it has found that social media and media extensively promote offline and online gambling, even using public figures and internet influencers to attract the public to participate in illegal gambling, posing a serious threat to social security, and must be strictly curbed.
The Ministry of Interior stated that the scope of the ban covers all forms of gambling-related promotions, including images, videos, and other advertising content. Any violation of the regulations will face legal sanctions. To ensure the implementation of the ban, the Ministry of Interior will join forces with law enforcement agencies to strengthen supervision and adopt a zero-tolerance attitude towards violations.
The ban aims to curb social problems caused by gambling. The Ministry of Interior calls on the public to actively cooperate to maintain social order and public order.
The Ministry of Interior reiterates that this ban is an important measure to protect social stability, and any illegal activities will be dealt with according to the law.
