Alice Guo, the dismissed mayor of Bamban, appeared in court through her legal advisor Nicole Jamilla at the Pasig City Regional Trial Court on Wednesday to defend her bail application related to a qualified human trafficking case against the former official.
"The witness testimony has been completed. We are formally submitting documents to the prosecution. Today is the last day to submit the bail application for a decision," said lawyer Nicole Jamilla.
She explained that the witness testimony has been completed, and they are now waiting for the court to decide whether to approve the bail application.
"Of course, if the bail application is submitted, we will expect the court to make a decision to approve or deny the bail application, otherwise the defendant will submit a bail application," she added. "The prosecution will provide their evidence or documents. If documents are presented, then we, the defense, will not be able to provide the documents we have shown or provided. The judge will make a ruling on this."
"The victim is the victim," Alice Guo swore to tell the truth during the executive session, Jamilla revealed that Guo has been attending court hearings via online video conference.
However, she disclosed that her client is anxious about possibly spending time in detention.
"I am very worried after being detained in September. It has been three months, so I am very worried. I might be detained during the holiday season. Worried, burdened. The pressure is great," Jamilla added.
Guo faces multiple charges from different courts for her alleged involvement in the illegal operations of a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO).
According to the order of the Pasig Regional Trial Court, Guo was transferred from the detention facility at Camp Crame by the Philippine National Police to the Pasig City Jail in October.
