Scientific Games has signed an agreement with the National Basketball Association (NBA) regarding licensed scratch card games.
U.S. lotteries will be able to take advantage of this offer, which includes second-chance promotions and experimental prizes as well as NBA-themed scratch card games.
The first lottery to participate in this partnership is the Massachusetts Lottery, which launched a game themed around the NBA champions Boston Celtics in November. According to the agreement with Scientific Games, the Massachusetts Lottery will become the first lottery company to launch an NBA-themed instant lottery ticket.
Worth noting: Scientific Games signed a five-year renewal contract with the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission (MSLC) in 2020.
Tina Hoover, Vice President of Licensing at Scientific Games, stated: "We are thrilled to welcome the NBA back to the lottery sector. The NBA has a loyal and enthusiastic fan base, making the brand a perfect choice for lottery games that engage communities statewide.
"Each game can be customized according to the local market of the lottery. Most importantly, the sales revenue from the games will benefit public welfare projects in these communities."
Mark William Bracken, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Lottery, added: "The Celtics are one of the most iconic teams in sports, and we are very excited to commemorate their recent championship with a ticket that offers their passionate fans the chance to win up to $1 million in cash and various experiential and merchandise prizes."
Last week, the NBA announced that next year's preseason games will be held in Macau, following an agreement with Sands China. The participating teams include the Brooklyn Nets and the Phoenix Suns.
