According to a forecast by the Brazilian National Association of Gambling and Lotteries (ANJL), starting from 2025, the regulated online gambling market is expected to generate 20 billion Brazilian reais in tax revenue for the government.
The association states that the regulatory laws for the Brazilian online gambling industry will officially take effect in 2025, further consolidating its position as the largest gambling market in Latin America, and potentially ranking third or fourth in the global online gambling industry in the future.
A more regulated online gambling market will bring tax revenue to the government, with the industry's regulation alone expected to generate 20 billion Brazilian reais for the Brazilian government in 2025.
In addition to the traditional taxes paid by online gambling service companies, the total tax collected by the government, including online gambling operating license fees and a 12% total revenue tax on gambling, should account for about 36% of online gambling revenue.
According to the association's estimates, the regulation of online gambling will directly and indirectly create at least 60,000 jobs in Brazil.
Online gambling activities also indirectly drive the development and growth of various entertainment, television, internet advertising, promotion, and media service chains in Brazil. Starting from January 1 next year, only online gambling businesses using the domain suffix “bet.br” will be able to operate legally in Brazil.
Previously, due to the lack of regulatory laws, unregulated online gambling could operate in Brazil without government oversight, posing financial security risks to bettors and addiction risks to minors.
Once online gambling is regulated by the government, children and minors will no longer be able to access these online gambling sites, as they will be blocked by regulated online gambling intelligent systems with technologies such as facial recognition.
Furthermore, the new laws and regulations also specify strict mechanisms to prevent gambling addiction, blocking players who exhibit compulsive betting behaviors through online gambling systems.
The National Telecommunications Agency faces some technical challenges in completely blocking unregulated online gambling platforms, and in the future, a special task force consisting of various regulatory bodies will be established to implement centralized takedown and blocking measures against these illegal online gambling sites.
The National Association of Gambling and Lotteries emphasizes that participating in online gambling is neither an investment nor should it be seen as a source of additional income. This is the main message that the association needs to continuously convey to the Brazilian public, encouraging people to participate in online gambling activities consciously and moderately, solely as a form of entertainment.
