The Swedish gambling regulator has banned the operator of the Spinarium brand from offering its services to players due to its lack of a licence.
Spelinspektionen said that a “covert test” on the website confirmed that the Cosmogames brand meets the stipulations in the Swedish gambling laws for an operator to be targeting Swedish players.
The gambling regulator noted that Spinarium supported stakes and winnings in Swedish currency, includes information in Swedish and has policy documents written in Swedish – all despite Spelinspektionen claiming it does not have a licence.
“The investigation did not reveal any measures preventing Swedish consumers from registering and creating accounts on the website in question,” the regulator added.
“Cosmogames was given the opportunity to respond, but no response has been received by Spelinspektionen.
“Cosmogames lacks the required licence to provide gambling in Sweden,” the regulator said.
“Therefore, Spelinspektionen has decided to prohibit Cosmogames from offering gambling services in Sweden.
“Spelinspektionen considers it important, for consumer protection and to ensure gambling safety, that the decision is implemented immediately. Therefore, the decision shall take immediate effect.”
