The Juiz de Fora City Council (MG) approved the creation of a municipal lottery through Bill 146/2024, authored by Councilor Tiago Bonecão (PSD). According to the substitute text, the service may be operated based on the types of lotteries provided for in federal law, with any others not authorized by the Union being prohibited.
As Councilor Bonecão clarifies, if the bill is approved, the revenue will be primarily allocated to the payment of prizes and respective Income Tax, payment of operational expenses, and funding of public interest policies as defined by the Budget Law.
The Juiz de Fora City Hall is also authorized to contribute monthly to the Municipal Own Social Security Regime (RPPS) to cover the actuarial deficit, with the corresponding financial amount.
Bonecão explains that the idea takes into account the possibility of generating significant revenues, which will be directed to priority areas. Moreover, it can stimulate local commerce through partnerships and raffles, increasing the flow of visitors and consumers in city establishments, which can benefit the local economy.
The text now moves on to be sanctioned by the Executive Power.
