The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) recently announced that it has established a partnership with the social media platform TikTok, aimed at strengthening the fight against online fraud and other cybercrimes.
PNP-ACG spokesperson Warren Mae Arancillo revealed that the collaboration was initiated by TikTok, as the platform has become one of the main channels for online transactions.
Arancillo stated, "We accepted TikTok's invitation to collaborate in order to enhance our investigations of crimes committed through the platform."
He also added that TikTok will provide specialized training to the police, helping the anti-cybercrime unit to conduct investigations more efficiently. "TikTok has committed to providing us with training to better understand the platform's operational processes and expedite the handling of cybercrime cases," he said.
The focus of this collaboration is to investigate various online scam activities related to the TikTok platform. Rommel Batangan, the acting head of PNP-ACG, noted, "TikTok is one of the most widely used social platforms globally, yet, criminals also use the platform for scams.
The partnership with TikTok will significantly enhance our investigative capabilities, helping us to combat cybercrime more swiftly."
Elisabeth Potuijt, TikTok's Southeast Asia Law Enforcement Outreach Manager, stated that TikTok is willing to provide training for PNP-ACG to ensure that the police clearly understand the platform's operational procedures and legal requirements, and to actively cooperate with the police to promptly address risks and emerging threats that may affect platform users or community safety.
