The company that operates Unibet in the Netherlands has said it will not appeal a €400,000 fine for allowing self-excluded players on its platform.
An investigation from the Dutch gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) found that Optdeck did not properly check the self-exclusion status of a number of players who registered on the platform during the 2022 World Cup.
The KSA said the operator did not properly carry out checks on the players’ BSN numbers, which must be cross-referenced with the Cruks self-exclusion register before they are admitted.
This allowed those self-excluded players to access gambling and betting content on the Dutch platform.
“The Gambling Stop is an important tool to combat gambling addiction and protect players from the unwanted effects of gambling,” the KSA said.
“It is therefore of great importance that providers carry out these checks meticulously. If this does not happen, a fine will follow.”
