According to reports, the government of Sihanouk Province has recently strengthened the security management of the West Port area, achieving significant results. Provincial government official Meng Xina revealed that West Port not only has rich tourism resources but also has become a popular destination for domestic and international tourists due to its great potential.
To enhance the tourist experience, the government has added cultural tourism and eco-tourism to the existing convention, sports, and cruise tourism sectors, covering Khmer cuisine, traditional art performances, pagodas, and museums among other characteristic projects.
Furthermore, West Port will further develop natural resorts, mangrove sightseeing, and waterfall tours among other eco-tourism projects. The government also plans to increase more direct flights to West Port, encourage social capital to invest in building sports centers and coastal cultural and arts centers, and promote the development of the nighttime economy, such as food streets and night markets.
Discussing the social security of West Port, Meng Xina stated that the West Port government has intensified efforts to crack down on crimes such as "gambling, drugs, and fraud," especially those that negatively impact the tourism industry.
To enhance public safety, West Port has installed 533 surveillance cameras across the province, covering 433 key areas, including densely populated and high-risk security areas. This measure has effectively improved the police's ability to respond to crimes, enhanced the efficiency of law enforcement, and provided higher security for residents and tourists.
In response to criticisms on social media, Meng Xina revealed that following the Cambodian government's "Rural Safety" policy, West Port authorities have successfully cracked down on 8 online gambling and telecommunication fraud dens and deported over 2000 illegal foreign nationals. These actions demonstrate the government's firm determination in fighting crime and purifying the social environment.
The government is resolute in cracking down on illegal online gambling to ensure the stability of West Port's security.
To welcome Chinese tourists to celebrate the New Year in West Port, the West Port government has also decorated major roads, leisure squares, and beach areas with festive lights and planned a variety of New Year's activities, including concerts, exhibitions, and theatrical performances. Meng Xina specially invites tourists, especially those from China, to experience the increasingly enhanced safety and vitality of West Port.
