The Makati City police recently arrested a suspect who specifically targeted foreigners for robbery.
It is reported that the suspect is a member of a criminal gang consisting of five people, mainly active around N. Garcia Street in Makati City, targeting Chinese tourists and other foreign visitors.
According to police investigations, this gang has been committing crimes frequently. On December 12 and 16, they robbed two Chinese tourists and a Japanese couple, stealing mobile phones and cash.
On the early morning of December 20, the suspect struck again, snatching a bag from a Japanese couple containing an expensive mobile phone and 50,000 Japanese yen in cash.
The Makati police noted that these suspects choose tourists as their targets, believing that the victims, being short-term visitors, are unlikely to pursue the case.
However, after receiving reports from the victims, the Japanese Embassy transferred the case to the Philippine police, who eventually helped arrest a member of the gang.
After being arrested, the suspect claimed to have been "invited to participate" and expressed apologies to the victims. Currently, the police are preparing to formally charge him and are actively pursuing other fugitives. The investigation of the case is still ongoing.
