The Metropolitan Police Division of Thailand raided an apartment in the Ranghen area of Bangkok, arresting a Chinese man and his girlfriend, and seized a batch of equipment used for telecommunications fraud.
Previously, the police were tracking a Chinese telecom fraud gang and discovered that the apartment was hiding a fraud nest, so they conducted a surprise inspection.
After investigation, the police learned that the apartment was managed by a 19-year-old Chinese man and his Chinese girlfriend. Inside the apartment, there were 8 SimBoxes in operation, along with 2 internet routers, 1 hub switch, 1 CCTV camera, and 1 set of backup power supply.
Although the Chinese male suspect denied the allegations, the police found during the background investigation that he has been in Thailand since June this year, and his mobile phone contained photos of several other apartments in central Bangkok.
Therefore, the police speculate that the suspect might have rented multiple apartments to assemble telecom fraud equipment and monitored them through CCTV cameras to guard against police searches.
Currently, the police are further collecting evidence to apply for a search warrant to investigate other locations. Meanwhile, the Chinese male suspect has been handed over to other police for interrogation, and whether his Chinese girlfriend is involved in illegal criminal activities is still under investigation.
