The Deputy Director and spokesperson of the Cambodian National Police, Xie Bao, held a press conference to explain the legal measures taken against individuals who continue to promote online gambling despite the Ministry of Interior's directive to "stop promoting illegal gambling activities".
Despite the issuance of the directive by the Ministry of Interior, there are still individuals who disregard the guidance and fearlessly carry out such promotional activities.
On December 25, 2024, the National Police arrested four suspects accused of promoting illegal online gambling activities in accordance with the law.
After the arrest and interrogation of the aforementioned four individuals, they were all transferred to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for legal proceedings. The court charged the defendants with the crime of "gambling agents" in the Langka District of Phnom Penh, based on Article 5 of the Gambling Prohibition Law, and decided to detain them in prison.
Furthermore, the National Police once again remind all social media users and various promotional channels to immediately cease all promotional activities related to online gambling and to take down such content, otherwise, legal measures will be taken by the National Police.
