The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau of Macau has submitted the statistical data for December, announcing the complete results for the entire year.
This marks the first annual decline in total gaming revenue (GGR) in two years.
In 2023, the gross gaming revenue was 18.6 billion Macau patacas (2.33 billion US dollars), but it decreased by 2% to 18.2 billion Macau patacas in December 2024.
The cumulative gross gaming revenue for 2024 was 226.8 billion Macau patacas, a 24% increase from the previous year.
The fastest growth in Macau casinos occurred at the beginning of this year.
The total monthly revenue in January, February, and March increased by more than 50% year-over-year, but the growth rate of total gaming revenue gradually weakened in the remaining months, averaging 16%.
It is noteworthy that due to the Lunar New Year celebrations, January and February are traditionally the busiest months for Macau casinos.
However, considering that the region has returned to pre-pandemic levels, this slowdown in data is also anticipated.
In 2019, the monthly gross gaming revenue was approximately 23 billion Macau patacas, and Macau has not yet returned to this figure.
The closest the region came to this target was in May 2024, with an amount of 20.2 billion Macau patacas.
Earlier this year, the Office of the Secretary for Security in Macau released the latest data on gaming-related crimes.
