The Brazilian market has opened up, with a large number of sports events (most notably football) approved for fixed-odds sports betting, and local reports also indicate a large number of licenses have been approved.
According to the Sports Department, the Brazilian government has approved several popular sports activities, making them eligible for betting before the new national sports betting market regulatory rules are introduced this New Year.
Popular sports such as football, basketball, boxing, baseball, hockey, cricket, tennis, and surfing have been included in the list, along with niche sports like martial arts, skateboarding, diving, sailing, skiing, and equestrian.
In fact, this list is very extensive, covering all sports and modes recognized by the International Olympic Committee, as well as a large number of Paralympic sports. However, the inclusion of football is inevitable and is likely to attract the attention of the majority of potential bettors nationwide.
It is worth noting that according to H2GC data, football accounts for 86% of Brazil's sports betting GGR.
Furthermore, local reports in Brazil indicate that several gambling institutions have obtained licenses to conduct online gambling and sports betting in the country.
As for online betting, the report shows that so far, 68 licenses have been approved, involving both local and internationally recognized operators – among them, Novibet provided confirmation of its online betting license approval earlier today.
For sports betting licenses, a total of 67 have been issued, with 15 currently confirmed as final approvals and another 52 receiving temporary approval. However, this number may change.
Earlier reports indicated that Brazil began reviewing the first batch of 71 online gambling applications earlier this month, and Salsa Gator confirmed last week that it has received GLI certification for online gaming.
