The Singapore Police Force has officially taken over the task of blocking illegal gambling websites. Previously, this task was managed by the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA), which announced this change in a Facebook post on December 31, 2024.
In its Facebook post, GRA thanked the public for their support, writing: "Thank you for your contributions to reducing the harm caused by illegal gambling sites.
From January 1, 2025, the Singapore Police Force will take over the blocking of such sites. You continue to play a crucial role in maintaining the safety of Singapore. Please report any illegal gambling activities."
According to the Singapore Revenue Authority, since 2015, the authorities have blocked over 3,800 illegal gambling websites and intercepted more than 145,000 payment transactions, totaling SGD 37 million (USD 27.2 million).
Illegal online gambling in Singapore is regulated under the Gambling Control Act, which came into effect in August 2022. This act coincided with the establishment of GRA, which took over and expanded the regulatory duties previously managed by the Casino Regulatory Authority.
