The Cambodian authorities have ordered an immediate halt to the promotion of all types of online gambling and will take legal action against those who disseminate false information.
The Deputy Director and spokesperson of the National Police, Xie Bao, recently stated at a press conference that the authorities will take legal measures against those who continue to promote various illegal online gambling activities despite the Ministry of Interior's regulations to stop such promotions.
He mentioned that despite the directives issued by the Ministry of Interior, some people have not complied and continue to promote online gambling information fearlessly. As a result, the authorities have recently arrested four suspects involved.
Xie Bao also mentioned that after being arrested and interrogated, the four suspects have been sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court and charged with "gambling brokerage" and are currently detained pending trial.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Director of the National Police also reminds all social media users to immediately stop all online gambling promotions and dissemination of false information, or they will face legal actions from the authorities.
The National Police issued an "ultimatum," requiring individuals or organizations that post online gambling promotional advertisements on the internet to delete all related content by December 10th, or they will be legally prosecuted.
Last December, the National Police issued a "final ultimatum" demanding that individuals or organizations posting online gambling promotional advertisements on the internet must delete all related content by December 10th, or face legal prosecution.
At the same time, the Ministry of Interior is highly concerned about gambling groups extensively promoting offline and online gambling on social media and media, even using public figures and internet celebrities to attract the public to participate in illegal gambling.
It warns that any violation of the regulations will face legal sanctions, and the Ministry of Interior will join forces with law enforcement agencies to enhance supervision and adopt a zero-tolerance attitude towards violations.
