On January 5th, Chinese mainland actor Wang Xing's girlfriend Jiajia posted on her Weibo account @InsomniaDaddy asking for help, stating that Wang Xing went missing around 12:00 noon Beijing time on January 3rd at the Thai-Myanmar border. It has been over 70 hours since his last message.
Latest news, just now @InsomniaDaddy spoke again:
I have received a lot of information backstage, seeing countless people worrying about Xingxing and me, thank you all! But the priority now is that we must closely follow up on the next steps and race against time.
We have landed in Bangkok, and this afternoon we will go to the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok to ask for help. If possible, we will report the case to the Bangkok police with the assistance of the embassy.
Until this morning, I have contacted several influential, experienced, and reputable bloggers and am synchronizing updates. However, due to the huge and complex amount of information, we cannot verify everything in a short time.
We urgently hope to establish direct contact with capable, resourceful, and well-connected media, influencers, and law firms in China, Thailand, and Myanmar to help advance the rescue.
So far, I have only posted on Weibo, and other platforms have been edited and forwarded by the media or bloggers. Human life is of utmost importance, irrelevant people should not seek attention, and everyone should be cautious in verification.
We will continue to update our progress.
At 12:46 PM on January 6th, Wang Xing's friend Puff (pseudonym) informed Tide News reporters: "The police have now filed the case." Puff said that a friend was on the way to the police station to get the filing receipt.
According to public information, Wang Xing has appeared in TV dramas such as "Fox Spirit Matchmaker: The Moon Red Chapter" as a shepherd boy, and has participated in "You Are My Glory" and "Crime Map 2" among other TV dramas.
On the morning of January 6th, Tide News received help messages from Wang Xing's brother Wang Qin and his friend Puff.
Wang Xing's friend "Puff" sought help through the Qianjiang Evening News WeChat message
According to Puff, Wang Xing's girlfriend Jiajia and his brother Wang Qin arrived in Thailand on January 6th, seeking help from the Thai side. "Hoping to find some local chambers of commerce to help with the rescue."
Additionally, Puff mentioned that starting from yesterday, other actors and media have also been mobilized to spread the information, hoping that everyone can help Wang Xing return home soon, "and hoping that the police can provide some help as soon as possible."
On December 31st, Wang Xing declined an invitation due to doubts about the filming information and location, but was told it was too late to replace him. After confirming that the production company had other works and wanted to expand overseas opportunities, Wang Xing finally decided to go to Bangkok to join the crew.
According to Jiajia's previous help message, on December 24, 2024, Wang Xing saw a recruitment message in a professional actors group and added someone claiming to be from the Thai GMM Grammy company, the actor coordinator "Yan Shiliu"; on December 26th, Wang Xing recorded an audition video, and the next day he was informed that the audition was successful;
According to Jiajia, "Yan Shiliu" painted a "big pie" for Wang Xing, saying the company needed English-speaking actors, and it was a rare opportunity. Wang Xing thought this was Thailand's largest media company, and getting on this line would offer significant career development opportunities, so after much hesitation, he decided to go.
Public information shows that GMM Grammy is one of Thailand's largest entertainment groups, known in Chinese as Asia Grammy Media Co., Ltd. It was established in 1983 by Thai-Chinese Huang Minhui. GMM Grammy holds over 60% of the market share in Thailand's entertainment industry, covering music, media, film, television, broadcasting, and other fields.
On January 3, 2025, at 4:00 AM Beijing time, Wang Xing took a flight from Shanghai Pudong International Airport to Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, and then took a vehicle arranged by the actor coordinator. Jiajia mentioned that Wang Xing kept in touch with her after getting in the car in Thailand and sent his location intermittently. According to the location map released by Jiajia, Wang Xing headed north from Suvarnabhumi Airport until he reached the Thai border town of Mae Sot, finally locating at Myawaddy on the Thai-Myanmar border, at Beijing time 11:10 AM on January 3rd.
The media learned that Mae Sot is a border town in northwestern Thailand, located at the border between Thailand and Myanmar, facing Myawaddy County in Myanmar across the Moei River. Myawaddy County is in Karen State, Myanmar, and has recently become a hotspot for telecommunications fraud and online gambling.
According to chat screenshots provided by Jiajia, at 11:34 AM on January 3rd, Wang Xing could not be contacted after changing vehicles. Jiajia immediately reported to the police in Shanghai, but since the person was no longer in the country, the case was not accepted, and she needed to contact the Chinese Embassy in Thailand.
Jiajia then called the Chinese Embassy in Thailand and the Consulate General in Chiang Mai, and was told that it was necessary to confirm whether the person was still within Thai territory and that a local case had to be filed in Thailand for assistance. Subsequent replies stated that she needed to go directly to the Mae Sot police station to file a report.
Additionally, a search by reporters found that another actor, Deng You, also almost got scammed. He received a job invitation and immediately applied for a passport renewal, but soon felt something was off. Deng You publicly shared his chat records with the actor coordinator "Yan Shiliu."
At the same time, he mentioned that he also saw similar information in other acting groups, finding that besides Xingxing, other people were also arranged by "Yan Shiliu" to go to Thailand.
Puff told reporters that since it cannot be confirmed whether this actor coordinator "Yan Shiliu" is in the country, and since WeChat can no longer be added, "we also don't know what method to use to investigate this person." Puff frankly hopes that Wang Xing's experience serves as a warning to everyone.
According to the latest media reports, on January 6th, a staff member of the Chinese Consulate General in Chiang Mai stated that on January 3rd, they indeed received a call for help from the family, "We responded actively and maintained communication. We will continue to follow up on the case within the relevant regulations and effectively safeguard the safety and legal rights of Chinese citizens within our scope of responsibility."
