The Dutch gambling regulator, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has handed out a €1.05m fine to an online operator which it says had been active without a licence.
The KSA said Alimaniere Sociedad de Responsibilidad created a new website for its time2spin.com brand – time2spin1.com – after the original platform was IP-blocked.
Dutch players could use the account they had created for time2spin.com at time2spin1.com, the regulator said.
Both websites are now unavailable after the KSA’s intervention.
The regulator said there were various factors which led to the minimum fine of €600,000 being ramped up in the case of Alimaniere Sociedad de Responsibilidad.
“For example, there was a lack of age verification, which allowed minors to play, and inactivity costs were charged when someone did not use their account for a while,” said Michel Groothuizen, chair of the KSA.
“We therefore take tough action against these types of parties.
“The Netherlands has a legal market to ensure that people who want to gamble can do so safely. With illegal providers, we often see that no account is taken of the prevention of risky gaming behaviour.”
