A federal judge has rejected an effort to stop a tribal-owned casino from being built in Medford.
Several local tribes filed the lawsuit last month against the U.S. Department of the Interior, members of the Biden Administration, and others in federal court. They are trying to declare the Coquille Tribe’s plans for a Medford casino unconstitutional because impacted tribes were not consulted.
The suit was filed by the Cow Creek Tribe in Douglas County, the Karuk Tribe in Siskiyou County, and the Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation in Del Norte County.
In response to the rejection, Chairman of the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians, Carla Keene said, “this decision is one procedural step in an administrative process and is not the final word.”
