According to Protos, Telegram has significantly increased its compliance with data requests, providing detailed information on over 2,000 users to U.S. authorities in 2024.
As reported by 404 Media, from January 1 to September 30, 2024, Telegram complied with 14 requests from the U.S. involving "IP addresses and/or phone numbers".
These requests affected 108 users. However, for the remainder of 2024, Telegram continued to fulfill 900 requests from the U.S., involving a total of 2,253 users.
Shortly after the arrest of CEO Pavel Durov, Telegram updated its privacy policy to clearly state that it would provide IP addresses and phone numbers to authorities pursuant to valid legal orders.
Previously, Telegram had stated that it would only provide such information when the request was related to potential terrorist acts.
