Netizen submission:
It's been two months since I came from the Philippines to Thailand, and there are some truths about Thailand that I have to speak out. I found that some things do not match what was previously shared online!
1. Cheap prices, low cost of living?
I have lived in both Bangkok and Pattaya, and I really don't think the prices are that cheap. Let's talk about renting first, a 30 square meter studio apartment generally costs over 15,000 Thai Baht. Seafood sold at the seafood markets is also not cheap, even slightly more expensive than in the Philippines.
The price of Chinese takeout is also similar to that in the Philippines. Additionally, cigarettes sold in Thai 7-11s are particularly expensive.
2. Thai food is delicious?
I admit there are more choices in Thai cuisine compared to Filipino food, but it's not really delicious and doesn't quite suit the Chinese palate. It's okay for the first few meals, but not after that.
Thai food generally features sweet, sour, and spicy flavors, and the portions are very small. I ate three servings of Pad Thai and still wasn't full.
3. Thai women are beautiful and cheap?
I've been to Nana Plaza in Bangkok several times, the standard price is 6000 Thai Baht, and the lowest you can negotiate is 5000 Thai Baht! How much is 5000 Thai Baht? It's equivalent to over 1000 Chinese Yuan or 8000 PHP!
4. Thailand has good public safety?
It's indeed better compared to the Philippines, at least you don't have to worry about being kidnapped by sea lions when walking at night. However, there are still issues like motorcycle gangs and scams (one of my colleagues was a victim, agreed on a price of 5000 Thai Baht, but after the service, they demanded 10,000 Thai Baht, otherwise they would call the police).
Summary: Comparing Thailand and the Philippines overall, Thailand is somewhat better, but it's not as mystical as portrayed on TG. Working and living in Thailand, one cannot completely let down their guard, especially with so many dubious characters arriving in recent months.
