The Cambodian Commercial Gambling Management Committee recently announced that the country's gambling industry tax revenue will exceed 60 million US dollars in 2024, an increase of 85% year-on-year.
The committee has also set a target for 2025, planning to collect more than 70 million US dollars in taxes from the gambling industry.
According to the report, the Cambodian government plans to obtain more than 286 billion riels (approximately 70 million US dollars) in tax revenue from the casino and lottery industries this year.
Compared to 2023, the gambling tax revenue in 2024 has significantly improved, with an increase of 85%.
The Secretary-General of the Cambodian Gambling Committee stated in an interview with local media that the committee will continue to work hard to promote tax collection in the gambling industry and hopes to achieve the long-term goals set in the 2025 Fiscal Management Law.
He pointed out that although the target is clear, the future tax results are still difficult to predict due to multiple factors, including the global economy, geopolitical situations, and the development of the tourism industry.
He also mentioned that the gambling industry's tax revenue in 2024 has maintained a strong growth trend. By the end of 2024, the Cambodian Gambling Committee had issued licenses to 195 casinos, with one license revoked, one suspended, and 15 licenses expired.
This data shows that the steady growth of tax revenue from the Cambodian gambling industry reflects the increasingly strict regulation of this industry in the country, and also contributes significant income to the national treasury.
