The Brazilian state lottery of Paraná celebrated its achievements over the past year.
Brazil.- The authorities of Loterias do Estado do Paraná (Lottopar) detailed the achievements made by the entity in the last year, including a collection of more than R$27.5m (USD4.4m) in fixed subsidy, just in 2024, adding to what was already collected with the fixed quota betting concession, the "bets", in 2023, worth R$25m (USD4m), for a total of R$52.5m (USD8.5m), which will be allocated to public housing, public safety, and social actions.
The first allocation of these funds collected by Lottopar was authorized by the Government of Paraná for an investment of R$10m (USD1.6m) for the construction of a Forensic Laboratory for Combating Financial Crimes for the Scientific Police. The resources come from activities regulated by the State Lotteries of Paraná (Lottopar).
The Integrated Center for Data Processing and Analysis (CIPAD) will be located at the agency's headquarters in Curitiba, and will be used to detect money laundering practices, asset concealment, illegal financial operations, and related crimes, further promoting the fight against corruption of individuals and legal entities.
In another initiative aimed at combating financial crimes, Lottopar was the first institution in the Brazilian lottery segment qualified for the federal government's financial activity control system (Siscoaf). As a result, sports betting sites licensed by Lottopar must develop tools and methods to analyze suspicious activities to prevent money laundering and asset concealment crimes.
Therefore, the authorized sports betting site must confidentially report to the Financial Activities Control Council (COAF), when it identifies an operation that, by its characteristics, values, form of execution, or any suspicious indication, may constitute evidence of money laundering crime.
In February, another sports betting operator, Bets, became operational, joining the other four companies that had been operational since last November. And to ensure the security of these operations, Lottopar accredited three more certification laboratories, Gaming Associates, eCOGRA, and Quinel. As a result, Paraná was a pioneer in carrying out this accreditation.
In June, Lottopar authorized the company Apostau.com to start selling the instant lottery "Raspinha", currently, there are more than 2,500 sales points open throughout Paraná.
Lottopar has also signed cooperation agreements with the Paranaense Football Federation (FPF) and other institutions, promoting sports integrity and responsible gaming. In October, the Responsible Gaming Week was held, an event that brought together national and international experts to disseminate best practices in the sector.
"With these actions, Lottopar reaffirms its commitment to transparency, security, and the development of the lottery market in Paraná, positioning itself as a benchmark at the national and international levels," the entity stated.
