In his first week as head of the Central Bank, Gabriel Galípolo committed to collaborate with the new president of the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), Vital do Rêgo, by providing Pix transaction information made by Bolsa Família beneficiaries to betting houses. The court is investigating the allocation of R$ 3 billion in August last year to betting houses, according to a report from the BC itself.
The average amount spent per beneficiary was R$ 100. Out of the total gamblers, 4 million are heads of households and, supposedly, sent R$ 2 billion to bets.
According to TCU ministers, the money is public and can only be used for the subsistence of the registered individuals.
In the conversation with Vital, Galípolo said that the BC would find a way to collaborate, delivering the necessary information without breaking bank secrecy.
The TCU needs to know if, indeed, the beneficiaries were the gamblers or if their documents were used by third parties in a fraudulent manner.
At this moment, Congress is leading the CPI of bets and the TCU wants a leading role in the discussion.
