The Dutch Gaming Authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has released its regulatory agenda for 2025.
The report highlights that this year, KSA will focus on four main pillars: underage gambling, combating illegal gambling supply, advertising, and monitoring its duty of care.
The authority will first investigate how young people access gambling through providers and how they are still able to create accounts on licensed sites, then begin implementing this strategy.
KSA will investigate the registration processes of different providers and determine whether it is possible to register on online platforms using simple identity fraud methods.
As part of its duty of care, KSA also confirms that it will expand this duty to physical gaming halls and casinos in the coming years.
A typical example is Alimaniere, which was fined 1.1 million euros ($1.1 million) yesterday for operating illegally in the country. The fine mentioned several aggravating factors, including the lack of an age verification system that does not allow minors to register on the site.
We will also pay more attention to the peripheral areas of illegal operators, such as promoters and affiliate websites.
Worth noting: KSA's new fine policy was released just a few days ago, specifying five categories of fines ranging from 500 euros to 2 million euros.
Finally, the jurisdiction made several changes to its advertising rules last year, related to multiple violations.
To address this issue, KSA will provide additional guidance in the new year while strictly cracking down on influencers who repeatedly violate the gambling advertising ban.
