Following actor Wang Xing, the news of Yang Zeqi, a post-2000s model from Baoding, Hebei, going missing at the border of Thailand and Myanmar has attracted widespread attention.
According to a Weibo post by Yang Zeqi's relatives, he lost contact with his friends after 2 PM on December 20, 2024, and is suspected to have encountered danger at the Thai-Myanmar border.
Yang Zeqi's cousin @Gudemuning detailed the timeline of his disappearance on Weibo. She revealed that Yang Zeqi saw a casting call from a drama crew on WeChat on December 8, 2024, and signed up for the audition.
The person claimed to be a staff member of Thailand's GMM Grammy company and confirmed his participation through a video interview.
On December 20, Yang Zeqi arrived in Bangkok on a VietJet Air flight and left via a vehicle arranged by the drama crew at 6:16 local time. However, at 2:59 PM, his location showed he had reached the Thai-Myanmar border, and then he went missing.
On December 21, Yang Zeqi sent a distress message to his friends but soon lost contact.
On December 29, Yang Zeqi made a video call to his mother to report his safety; he appeared haggard with visible bruises near his eyes, and then the phone was turned off again. His relatives immediately reported to the police and contacted the Chinese Embassy in Thailand for help.
The Chinese Consulate General in Chiang Mai confirmed that they were aware of Yang Zeqi's disappearance and advised his family to report to the police. The consulate stated that once the Thai police file a case, they will assist fully and urge the investigation to progress.
Mr. Duan, a friend of Yang Zeqi, said that during the search for help, he and other friends received threatening calls asking them to stop searching for Yang Zeqi, which has increased the worries of his family and friends about his safety. "We cannot give up searching for him out of fear; we must fight for every hope," Mr. Duan firmly stated.
Currently, Yang Zeqi's family is actively preparing to go to Thailand or Myanmar to search for him and continues to contact the embassy and local authorities for support. Meanwhile, the Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police, Tachai Bidanilab, responded to the media, stating that the Thai police are verifying the details of the case and will start the investigation as soon as possible.
