Cambodian businessman and nephew of Hun Sen, Duke Hong Du issued a statement refuting the remarks made by wealthy businessman Heng Sethy.
Heng Sethy is the chairman of Cambodia's Maritime Group, covering multiple sectors including banking, hotels, aviation, land, and real estate development.
A few weeks ago, Heng Sethy was accused of extorting $2 million from Singaporean businessman Pan Yicheng, who subsequently sued him, leading to his rapid departure from the country.
Recently, Heng Sethy, who is abroad, accused Hong Du and others of stealing his land worth $250 million, and also claimed they provide protection for online gambling and telecom fraud syndicates.
In a statement on January 8, Hong Du emphasized that these accusations are baseless and completely false, severely damaging his personal reputation and also negatively impacting Cambodia's reputation.
Hong Du stated that Heng Sethy's remarks have violated the law, and he will sue him through legal means to defend his rights.
Heng Sethy has been put on the "Red Notice"
Recently, the Cambodian Ministry of Interior announced that Heng Sethy has been added to the red notice list.
Besides Hong Du, Heng Sethy has a long list of people he has confronted, including nobles and businessmen.
Previously, he also accused the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Su Sokha, of "abusing power," "shielding criminals," and "corruption," claiming that the governor of Kandal province, Guo Zongren, laundered money through cryptocurrencies, and the director-general of the National Police, Su Tong, accepted bribes of $5 million.
The Ministry of Interior announced that Heng Sethy is suspected of spreading rumors and tarnishing the reputation of leaders. After multiple summons and his refusal to cooperate, the department decided to place him on the red notice list.
"Heng Sethy claims to be righteous, but in reality, he knows the law and breaks the law, crying 'stop thief' while being a thief himself. This is not freedom of speech, but incitement to disturbance, and has already violated the criminal law," the announcement said.
