According to Cambodian media reports, after several years of decline due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tax revenue from the gambling industry in Cambodia has significantly increased.
The Cambodia Commercial Gambling Management Committee stated that in 2024, Cambodia's gambling tax revenue exceeded 60 million US dollars, an increase of 85% compared to the previous year, and this year's target tax revenue will exceed 70 million US dollars.
Cheung Chantha, a technical advisor at the Secretariat of the Cambodia Commercial Gambling Management Committee, said that in 2024, Cambodia's gambling tax revenue exceeded 60 million US dollars, an increase of 85% from 2023.
In order to further strengthen the tax collection of the industry in 2025, the Cambodia Gambling Management Committee will continue to implement measures to clear old debts and strengthen inspections and audits of gambling venues.
At the same time, compliance of gambling operations will be enhanced to ensure adherence to relevant legal standards.
In addition to strengthening the implementation of these measures, the committee is also setting up offices for its staff in casinos and preparing for surprise inspections.
Regarding the revenue collection of the gambling industry, in 2025, the Ministry of Economy and Finance plans for the Cambodia Commercial Gambling Management Committee to collect 286 billion riels (about more than 70 million US dollars).
It is worth mentioning that currently, the Cambodia Gambling Management Committee (CGMC) has issued licenses to 195 casinos. So far, one license has been revoked, one suspended, 15 have expired, and the remaining are still operating normally.
