The National Basketball League (LNB) hosted lawyer José Francisco Manssur at its São Paulo headquarters this Tuesday (14) for a lecture aimed at clarifying doubts regarding the conduct the entity should adopt with the betting market regulations promoted by the Brazilian government. The topics covered included communication, marketing, competition regulations, and the clubs and players associated with the LNB.
Lawyer, former special advisor to the Ministry of Finance and legal consultant for the National Basketball League, José Francisco Manssur, attended the LNB to discuss and answer various questions about the recent changes in the Brazilian sports betting market.
The goal was to maintain the entity's position of continuing with its governance and responsibility practices as an organization that promotes the country's main basketball championships with integrity.
For more than two hours, the collaborators received guidance on advertising, content dissemination, brand exposure, adaptations to broadcasts, and even team uniforms.
Topics such as the image linkage of minors under 18 and what is not allowed for players aged between 18 and 21 were discussed, explaining that it is not possible to associate the image of this age group with these sites, even though they are considered of legal age.
Despite the difficulties and controversies, the LNB showed itself receptive to accepting and improving all its competitions under the norms governing National Sport through the competent higher entities to stipulate rules and conducts.
“The most important aspect for us to work on so that the betting market can be a healthy thing, not only within the sport but for society as a whole, is through education and dialogue, it is the awareness of the people involved. All the people who were here are people involved with the League, they are part of the realization of championships,” said José Francisco Manssur.

In this new betting environment, it is even more important to have this conversation to understand what the Law says is allowed, what can no longer be done in Brazil and, especially with our common sense, understand what is good for the people who will consume the League's products, what is good for the athletes, coaches, committees, managers, and for the League's own employees,” he added.
“I believe that we will only improve this environment if we have more and more conversations like this. Soccer is already doing it, now basketball is also getting involved which is very positive,” Manssur concluded.

“Our entity, as an entity that organizes the championship like the NBB CAIXA, is fully subject to compliance with these new norms, this new legislation. So, it is extremely important to have this guidance, to be aware of this new law, its impacts on the daily life of our championships, our clubs, and all the people who participate in them. It was a very productive afternoon and the League will strive on the path of implementing compliance with all the regulation that was approved and came into force now in January,” he said.
There was an understanding that all sectors of the entity had doubts that pertained to each area of activity.
The lawyer speaker liked what was brought by the collaborators, even thinking about new reflections on the topic.
The president of the LNB understands that, despite this step taken, there will be a lot of hard work that the entity will have to do. He highlights the challenge of adapting existing practices in Brazil to the new regulatory framework of betting, which now requires legal and formal compliance.

José Manssur emphasized that, although it is not about implementing something from scratch, there is a need to review advertising, brand exposure, and other practices. The meeting included the participation of all departments of the LNB, aiming to align the next steps for compliance with the legislation.
