According to Cambodian media, "King of Exposés" Heng Sethy was arrested in Russia and will be deported back to Cambodia.
Cambodian internet celebrity journalist Peng Vanna reported that Heng Sethy, known as the "King of Exposés," was arrested at the Leningrad Station in Russia while he was planning to go to Moscow.
On January 8, the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a letter to all its embassies abroad stating that the Ministry of Interior had cancelled Heng Sethy's passport. An arrest warrant was issued for him by the Phnom Penh court on December 3. In late December, Cambodian authorities requested Interpol to put him on the red notice list.
Recently, Heng Sethy has repeatedly "exposed" the inner workings of high-ranking Cambodian officials acting as protectors for online scam parks, causing a sensation in public opinion. His exposures include Hun Sen's nephew Hun To, Minister of Interior Sar Kheng, National Police Chief Neth Savoeun, head of the anti-online gambling and scam task force Sopheap, and the former governor of Sihanoukville, Kuoch Chamroeun.
He once exposed that Hun To had "swindled" $9 million from a Chinese investor in mining in Cambodia, but the investor later denied this in a video, and Hun To issued a statement threatening to sue him.
What awaits the "King of Exposés" upon his return to Cambodia?
It might not be a good ending.
Internet celebrity journalist Peng Vanna has already posted on Facebook that the police have searched Heng Sethy's residence in the Langka district of Phnom Penh, verifying that Heng Sethy is also suspected of illegal production and trafficking of drugs, and money laundering activities from 2020 to 2022.
He hasn't landed yet, but the charges are already piling up.
It is said that before going to Russia, Heng Sethy had prepared an open letter to Prime Minister Hun Manet, in which he claimed he was set up, his wealth was taken away, there are corrupt officials in the government, and Cambodia needs someone to steer properly. If there is a good leader to guide the right direction, everything will soon improve.
However, the open letter was never published until after his arrest when it was revealed by the media.
