Recently, the police raided a POGO den hidden in a resort in Si Rong, Jia Mei Di Province, arresting 29 foreigners, including a Chinese boss.
The Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) first discovered the illegal operation clues of POGO, and then shared the information with the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC).
J Gatdula, CIDG director of Jia Mei Di, said: "A confidential informant reported to the police that some suspicious activities were happening in the resort because Chinese people had been there."
Although most of the arrested were Chinese, there were also six Burmese citizens.
A Chinese man, alleged to be the boss, denied the charges.
"No, there is no boss," he said.
Jia Mei Di CIDG stated that the POGO workers arrived at the resort last December. They used laptops instead of desktop computers, and everyone used mobile WiFi instead of internet routers.
The authorities confiscated electronic devices suspected of being used for fraud activities.
Gilbert Cruz, Deputy Minister of PAOCC, said: "This is what we have been saying, they can hide in resorts or apartments, and you can even tell from the appearance that they are conducting cryptocurrency scam transactions."
"They should not stay here anymore. If they have passports, they should be tourist passports," he added.
The immigration bureau is now verifying the identities of the arrested foreigners and checking their criminal records in their home countries.
