The Social and Promotional Gaming Association (SPGA) has officially approved a bill proposed by State Senator Clinton Calabrese aimed at regulating New Jersey's raffle activities.

Currently, raffle activities remain unregulated across the North American market. However, their rapidly rising popularity has sparked intense debates within the industry about the legal and regulatory discrepancies that may arise as the industry moves towards regulation.

According to this latest development, the bill proposed by Senator Calabrese will make New Jersey the first state in the US to regulate sports betting activities, further promoting the development of sports betting. Since the overturning of PASPA in 2018, New Jersey has been one of the strictest states (if not the strictest) regarding sports betting activities.

The SPGA was established in September 2024 with the sole purpose of advocating for the responsible operation of raffle games. Additionally, the organization has developed a new code of conduct for its members in December. An in-depth discussion on the raffle theme can be found in the upcoming issue of Gaming America magazine.

In response to this new bill proposal, the SPGA released an official statement: "SPGA welcomes the bill proposed by Senator Calabrese. SPGA and its members advocate for the establishment of clear regulations to achieve a transparent, innovative, and responsible social and promotional gaming experience."

"This bill aligns with our core goals of enhancing the legality and legitimacy of social raffle games, which millions of American adults enjoy playing."

It is worth noting that New Jersey is also one of the first states to legalize sports betting and online gambling, currently hosting the largest online gambling market in the US.

Furthermore, since approving sports betting in 2018, New Jersey has been the largest state in the US sports betting industry for many years. However, in recent years, the rise of New York has dethroned New Jersey. Theoretically, this bill could allow New Jersey's sports betting industry to compete again with New York.

Last month, there was news from New Jersey that the state is considering legalizing underage gambling. Following this, the gambling revenue report for November was $556.9 million, a 10.8% increase from the previous month.
