Horse caretakers claim that installing a stage at the historic equestrian facility could affect the animals.
Uruguay.- The celebrations for Carnival are one of the most anticipated moments of the summer in Uruguay, and throughout Montevideo, various stages will be set up, where the murgas perform. One such stage will be at the Hipódromo de Maroñas, however, the decision has not been well received by a sector of the facility's workers.
“It is not something that goes with the activity. Setting up a stage where we have more than 1,200 animals. We look after the well-being and tranquility of the animal,” indicated the horse caretakers to the local media Telemundo about their dissatisfaction with the decision. According to them, the animals could be affected by the noise generated during the festivities.
The workers acknowledged the popularity of the stage, and how its installation might help attract more people to the racetrack, but they consider it not the right place. “Installing it inside the racetrack is inadmissible for us,” they pointed out.
Due to this situation, meetings have already been arranged with the facility's authorities, although so far no agreement has been reached. “If you look at it from the commercial side, it's great, but the thing is that these matters need to be discussed beforehand and not on the fly to see how we accommodate the situation,” they added.
