Mr. Pakorn Nilpraphan, Secretary-General of the State Council, revealed at the Governor's House that the draft bill for the operation of integrated entertainment venues (the "Bill") has begun to be deliberated.
The progress of the bill aligns with the government's policy objectives, aiming to create artificial destinations and gradually advance measures consistent with government policies.
Mr. Pakorn stated that the government has set a 50-day deliberation period for this bill and will expedite the process as soon as possible. He emphasized that this is an urgent matter, the government has initiated the relevant procedures, and has held a meeting to discuss the layout and details of the bill.
According to his disclosure, the deliberation is progressing smoothly, and the government is currently not focused on opening casinos, but rather on how to create artificial destinations.
When asked whether a national referendum is needed to hear public opinions, Mr. Pakorn said that it would depend on the government's judgment.
If it is believed that the bill may have a significant impact on society, the government might decide to hold a referendum to solicit public opinion. However, he also stated that the final decision on whether to hold a referendum rests with the Cabinet, not the policy departments.
The draft bill for the operation of integrated entertainment venues is being expedited, and the government hopes to complete the deliberation within 50 days. If the issues involved in the bill have a significant impact on the public, a national referendum might be considered. The final decision of the government will be determined based on social response and public demand.
