According to the Singapore-based "Lianhe Zaobao" website, the Lancang-Mekong River Comprehensive Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation Center (referred to as the "Lancang-Mekong Law Enforcement Cooperation Center") implemented joint law enforcement actions, coordinating law enforcement departments from six countries including Cambodia and China to combat regional telecommunications network fraud crimes, derivative crimes, and firearms and ammunition smuggling crimes, with over 70,000 suspects arrested during the operation.
According to Chinese media reports, the Lancang-Mekong Law Enforcement Cooperation Center held a summary meeting for the "Seagull" joint operation in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China, and reported on the progress and main achievements of the "Seagull" operation.
From August to December 2024, the center organized the "Seagull" joint law enforcement operation, coordinating law enforcement departments from Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam to combat regional telecommunications network fraud crimes, derivative crimes, and firearms and ammunition smuggling crimes.
Preliminary statistics show that during the operation, a total of over 160 cases mainly involving telecommunications fraud were cracked, over 70,000 criminal suspects were arrested, and over 160 victims were rescued.
According to reports, the center will timely launch the second phase of the "Seagull" joint operation this year, continuing to focus on combating telecommunications network fraud crimes and their derivative crimes, especially fully rescuing missing and trapped persons from various countries, and effectively safeguarding the life and property safety of the people and regional security and stability in the region.
The Lancang-Mekong Law Enforcement Cooperation Center was established in 2017 and is an intergovernmental international organization for comprehensive law enforcement and security cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong River Basin.
