Alice Guo, former mayor of Banban Town in Qianlu Province, is facing multiple legal challenges, including a corruption case. Recently, her team attempted to prevent four employees of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) from testifying in court in the Balensuela area, arguing that their testimonies were irrelevant to the case.
However, Judge Orven Kuan Ontalan ruled that these witnesses could testify.
The corruption case involves Guo's alleged involvement in the creation and operation of a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO).
This facility is believed to be associated with cybercrime and human trafficking activities, and the prosecution is trying to prove Guo's business connections with Baofu Land Development Inc., the owner of the land where the facility is located.
In addition to the corruption case, Guo also faces a series of other legal proceedings, including a serious human trafficking case in Bashi City Court, a false statement case in Danlu City Court, and a nullity lawsuit in Manila City Court.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has also filed a complaint against her, accusing her of failing to file taxes legally since obtaining her Tax Identification Number (TIN) in Bulacan Province, a practice that continued during her tenure in Danlu Province.
Furthermore, Guo faces charges of tax evasion and forgery, and there is a petition to cancel her birth certificate currently under review. Guo denies all charges and insists on her innocence, with the case still ongoing.
