Two Koreans were arrested by the police for allegedly operating an online gambling website in a house in Udon Thani Province.
On Wednesday, Major General Panumart Boonyalak, the director of the Immigration Bureau, led a joint team of the Immigration Bureau and local police to search a rental house in Ban Lueam town, Muang district of Udon Thani Province.
The police launched this operation based on intelligence that foreigners were engaging in illegal activities inside the house.
At the scene, police found two Koreans managing the online gambling operations and server systems. The suspects were detained on the spot and taken in for questioning.
The authorities seized computers and other devices related to the gambling activities, which were used to operate major Korean gambling websites "Vinus Gaming Services" and "100d-1", with users worldwide.
Additionally, the police discovered a list of gamblers from around the world and financial records involving multiple currencies. These data further proved the two individuals' involvement in illegal gambling activities.
Major General Varisiri Leelarasiri, acting commander of the Fourth Division of the Immigration Bureau, stated that during the interrogation, the two suspects admitted they were members of the IT team of the illegal websites.
They were not only responsible for managing the daily operations of these gambling sites but also provided monetary transaction support for gamblers and promoted these sites in Korea, Thailand, and other countries.
According to the investigation, these websites had a monthly turnover of up to 4 billion Korean Won, approximately 100 million Thai Baht. The two suspects entered Thailand as tourists and based themselves in Udon Thani Province. They admitted to receiving a monthly salary of 80,000 to 100,000 Thai Baht.
The two suspects were charged with working without a permit and other related illegal activities. Currently, all seized items and suspects have been handed over to the Udon Thani Province police for legal proceedings. Meanwhile, the police are coordinating with the Korean Embassy regarding the matter.
As per Major General Varisiri, at the request of the suspects, their names were not disclosed by the police.
