The Thai parliamentary committee convened a meeting, requesting relevant agencies to clarify the details of amending ministerial regulations and discussed how to legalize underground gambling to regulate "online gambling" activities.
This meeting was chaired by Mr. Kornwee Prisananantakul, a member of the Bhumjaithai party from the House of Representatives. The meeting covered two issues: first, the amendment of departmental regulations concerning online gambling cases under the 1935 Gambling Act, and second, guidelines for the operation of integrated entertainment venues.
At the meeting, representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the Provincial Administration Office, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society were invited. The Royal Thai Police also sent representatives to explain.
The committee sought to deeply understand the specific details of amending the ministerial regulations, especially how to publicize underground gambling. Since these amendments do not require deliberation by the House of Representatives, the committee decided to strictly scrutinize the details to prevent any issues.
Mr. Kornwee stated that the committee was particularly concerned about the specific content of the amendments to the ministerial regulations, especially which specific items these amendments would involve, such as football betting, slot machines, and other forms of online gambling, and how they relate to legal issues concerning operations.
The committee hopes that through these amendments, a set of laws can be established to effectively control online gambling and combat illegal underground gambling.
Regarding the issues related to integrated entertainment venues, Mr. Kornwee also mentioned that the committee is studying the operational guidelines and implementation formats for these venues.
He noted that although the previous research group had proposed a plan concerning online gambling, he was not aware of the specific details of the online gambling proposal due to the broad scope of the group's work.
It is understood that the purpose of amending the regulations is to establish a set of laws covering online gambling, as the current gambling laws have not effectively addressed this emerging issue.
