The head of the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration announced the annual revenue projections.

Peru.- The government of Peru has high expectations in terms of tax collection from the recently regulated online betting market. As some details are adjusted regarding tax increases, especially after the incorporation of the Selective Consumption Tax (ISC), authorities provided information about the projections they have for the market.

Víctor Mejía, chief of the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat), appeared on Ampliación de Noticias by RPP, and declared that they estimate to collect S/ 80m (USD21.3m) annually with taxes on online sports betting houses.

Regarding this, Mejía said: "It is a new tax that will contribute to increasing revenue. Payments will be reflected in the month of February. There are five large platforms operating in Peru and I tell you that three are already registered to pay the tax and we estimate a collection, in the year, of S/ 80m (USD21.3m)".

It is worth remembering that from January 1st, companies domiciled and not domiciled dedicated to the exploitation of games and sports betting remotely are subject to the payment of a 12 percent tax on their net profits, in addition to the Selective Consumption Tax (ISC) on each transaction made by registered users on these platforms.

The revenue collected in the first month of validity of these tax obligations must be declared and paid through the Virtual Form No. 696. This virtual form will be available on Sunat Online Operations (SOL) starting next February 1st to complete the determinative declarations corresponding to January 2025 onwards.

To date, there are more than 60 companies that have been authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) for the exploitation of the technological platform of games or sports betting remotely.

On Sunday, January 19, the Peruvian Executive published in the Official Bulletin the Supreme Decree No. 008-2025-EF, which modifies the General Sales Tax Law (IGV) and Selective Consumption Tax (ISC) to establish the rates charged for games and bets made remotely.
