The media case that shook Spanish football took an unexpected turn.

Spain.- A week ago, the National Police of Spain arrested Sevilla player Kike Salas for his alleged involvement in match-fixing. According to reports, Salas had induced yellow cards in football matches to benefit friends and relatives in sports betting.

The investigation, led by the court of Morón de la Frontera, Salas' hometown, indicated that the player had fixed a total of 30 bets, achieving profits of about €10,000 in one month. Salas testified before the court, according to the media El Confidencial.

However, this week the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), the case took a turn when it was decided to archive it pending a judge's decision. The reason? Since the case is already in the hands of the judiciary, the RFEF will not take disciplinary measures until a verdict is issued, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.

For its part, when the judge issues his ruling, the RFEF could disqualify the player for a period of up to five years, and also impose a fine of up to €30,000 for his involvement in betting, according to article 78.
