Brazil.- With the goal of discussing how to confront the manipulation of sports events and illegal betting, among other related topics, the international seminar on integrity and prevention of corruption in sports was held on Wednesday 22, under the name: "Protecting Brazilian Sport".
The event, organized by the Ministry of Sport and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), took place over two days and included national and international speakers.
For Valeska Queiróz, chief of staff for the Minister of Sport, André Fufuca, the seminar was an opportunity to analyze, debate, and reflect on the challenges related to integrity in sports. Additionally, she highlighted that this issue is not limited to Brazil and emphasized the commitment of the Ministry of Sport to protect and combat corruption in sports.

The first panel was led by Ronan O’Laoire, coordinator of the UNODC program on Protection of Sport against Corruption and Economic Crime. During his presentation, O’Laoire provided a detailed overview of the main problems and emerging trends related to the fight against corruption in the sports field, both globally and in Brazil.
The second panel focused on the manipulation of sports competitions, exploring best practices and research on this phenomenon. It included representatives from the International Olympic Committee, the Brazilian Olympic Committee, and the Federal Police.
Giovanni Rocco, secretary of sports betting and economic development of sports, who was part of the second panel, highlighted the importance of collaboration between institutions and countries to achieve the effectiveness of the actions.
Throughout the two days of the event, important topics related to integrity, prevention of corruption, and the fight against crimes in the sports environment were addressed.
Another panel was dedicated to the discussion on "Fighting illegal betting: main problems, trends, and considerations", with the aim of increasing understanding about the manipulation of sports events and sharing good practices and case studies on how to address this critical issue.
