Recently, several Chinese citizens were deceived and illegally detained at the Thai-Myanmar border, where they were forced into telecom network fraud, drawing widespread social attention.
Most of these victims were lured by fake high-paying job ads, such as positions for actors, models, and crew members, and were then deceived into going to Thailand, before being transferred to telecom fraud parks in Myawaddy, Myanmar.
In these parks, they not only lost their freedom but were also forced to engage in illegal activities such as telecom network fraud.
The Chinese Ministry of Public Security quickly deployed local public security authorities to fully carry out personnel rescue and case investigation. Additionally, a working group was sent abroad to work closely with the embassy in Thailand to jointly combat transnational crime.
With concerted efforts, and the assistance of Thai law enforcement, a key suspect in these cases, Yan Molei (online alias "Yan Sixteen"), was brought back to China on the evening of January 25.
Experts say that Yan Sixteen is one of the key figures in this series of fraud cases. He used his experience in the film industry to create fake scripts, shooting plans, and contracts, posting high-paying job offers to lure young actors to Thailand and other places for shooting, only to deceive them into fraud parks.
His actions not only severely harmed the victims' interests but also damaged the reputation and image of the entertainment industry.
The apprehension of Yan Sixteen plays a significant role in advancing the fight against telecom fraud. Firstly, his capture means that the police have obtained crucial clues about the case, allowing further investigation into the criminal group's structure and operations, providing strong support for subsequent actions.
Secondly, his capture also serves as a deterrent, sending a strong signal to other potential criminals that the Chinese police are determined and capable of combating transnational telecom fraud.
Moreover, his capture has a positive impact on combating the Myawaddy telecom fraud parks. As a hotbed for telecom fraud, Myawaddy has numerous locations engaged in illegal activities. Yan Sixteen's role as a facilitator in these activities helps the police to trace and dismantle more telecom fraud dens and rescue more trapped individuals.
This also serves as a warning to other telecom fraud criminals, forcing them to restrain their activities or flee the area.
A representative from the Chinese Ministry of Public Security stated that the public security authorities will earnestly implement the spirit of the national video conference on combating telecom network fraud, with greater determination and intensity, continuously launch severe crackdowns, deepen international law enforcement cooperation, strengthen coordination with relevant countries, vigorously pursue suspects, coordinate rescues of trapped individuals, and decisively protect the personal and property safety of Chinese citizens.
The public security authorities remind the public to remain vigilant, enhance safety precautions, and not to blindly trust high-paying job or work opportunities abroad, to avoid falling into illegal and criminal traps.
