Eight suspects (including four police officers, one forest ranger, and three civilians) were arrested for allegedly kidnapping seven Chinese men and extorting 2 million Thai Baht from them. The incident occurred at a resort in Phibun Mangsahan County, Ubon Ratchathani Province, Thailand.
The victims successfully sent a message to their relatives via mobile phone about their detention location.
According to reports, the victims claimed they were kidnapped by three officers from the Special Investigation Bureau, one border patrol police officer, one paramilitary forest ranger, and three civilians, one of whom was Burmese.
They were forcibly taken from the Chanuman district of Amnat Charoen and forced to contact their relatives to demand 2 million Thai Baht as a condition for their release.
At that time, the victims' relatives were in Laos. Upon learning of the kidnapping, they immediately sought help from the Thai police. After receiving the request for help, the Phibun Mangsahan Police Station quickly dispatched a rescue team to the scene.
The police raided the resort, successfully rescued all the victims, and arrested the eight suspects.
The police revealed that these Chinese citizens were lured to Thailand with promises of high-paying jobs, only to be kidnapped. The kidnappers threatened the victims' families, demanding a ransom of 2 million Thai Baht for their release.
Although these Chinese citizens were charged with illegal entry into Thailand, the kidnapping suspects face charges of abuse of power and misconduct. To protect the identities of the suspects, especially those involving officials, the television station restricted media access.
