Thai cyber police arrested a famous singer "Oil Saengsarn" with 200 million YouTube views, who is suspected of promoting online gambling.
At just 27 years old, "Oil Saengsarn" admitted that he used his influence on social media to post online gambling ads to lure his fans into participating, in exchange for high compensation.
This case is not isolated, as there have been several similar cases in Thailand recently, highlighting the rapid spread of online gambling in the country.
The internet celebrity "Baifern", who has millions of followers, was also arrested for allegedly promoting illegal online gambling, earning 3000 Thai Baht per promotional post.
The Thai police stated that online gambling has formed a complete industry chain, with celebrities and internet influencers playing a significant role. They use social media platforms to post ads in a covert manner, attracting a large number of users to participate and making huge profits.
To curb the spread of online gambling, Thai police have established a special team to intensify crackdown efforts.
The police emphasized that both promoting and participating in online gambling would face severe legal sanctions. They also called on the public to be vigilant, stay away from online gambling, and not to be deceived by false promotions from celebrities and internet influencers.
The rampant online gambling reflects the severe challenges faced by Thai society.
In addition to strengthening law enforcement, the Thai government also needs to address the root causes, such as enhancing youth education, raising public awareness of the dangers of online gambling, and improving relevant laws and regulations to effectively curb the spread of online gambling.
