According to reports from Thai media, the Thai police successfully dismantled a telecommunications fraud hub in the Rangkhang area of Bangkok. Following a search warrant issued by the Criminal Court on January 30, No. 40/2568, the police searched an apartment and discovered 5 telephone signal converters (GSM gateways), each capable of accommodating 32 SIM card slots.
The investigation revealed that the fraud gang deceived over a dozen victims, mostly vendors and breadwinners, involving transfer cases in the police stations of Nakhon Pathom, Trat, and Ubon Ratchathani.
Further investigation found that these SIM boxes were connected to Thai signal towers via internet signals from neighboring countries. The police tracked and eventually seized 5 SIM box devices in the apartment.
Initial investigations showed that the apartment was rented by a person named Blake, with two employers, Tao and A, responsible for renting the property and participating in the installation and operation of the fraud devices.
The SIM box devices were used to carry out telecommunications fraud, and it was also found that the apartment's rent was 3,700 Thai Baht per month.
The rental of the room and the installation of the devices were managed by Tao and A, while the transportation of the SIM card boxes and the installation of the transmitters were completed by another suspect named Tong. According to the investigation, the three had been renting the apartment since December of the previous year and used it for fraudulent activities.
The police remind that if apartment managers or rental service providers notice any unusual conditions, such as abnormally high electricity bills, which could be due to the high power consumption of the devices, they should immediately report to the police to prevent similar fraudulent activities from continuing.
