Now that the permanent Caesars casino is open, Danville is looking for developers who will bring life back to the sites surrounding the casino while maintaining the legacy of the Schoolfield District.
Schoolfield was established in the early 1900s as a home to mostly Dan River Mills employees and their families.
“It’s full of rich, rich history and was honestly the bread and butter of what made Danville, Danville,” said Samantha Bagbey, Economic Development & Tourism Project Manager.
To keep the rich history alive, city leaders launched the New Schoolfield District Plan in 2023. As part of the plan, the city is now selling four properties within Schoolfield that surround the new Caesars casino.
