During an interview at the Prime Minister's Office, Thai Prime Minister Pei Tongtan discussed the Thai government's stance on cutting off electricity supply to Myanmar. She stated that the government had no hesitation about this matter and clearly pointed out in the cabinet meeting that it is entirely feasible to immediately cut off electricity and stop supplying oil if the border issue situation is clear.
She emphasized that the primary task is to protect the interests of the Thai people, as the current situation has already had a significant impact on the Thai public and the national image.
Pei Tongtan noted that if this matter is handled without order and priority, it could lead to long-term subsequent problems. She stated that Thailand is currently facing a severe situation, thus strict measures must be taken.
When asked whether the instigators behind the scenes would be held accountable, Pei Tongtan said that it must be handled according to the law and cannot be ignored. She emphasized that this is not only a domestic issue but also a serious national problem that all countries are very concerned about. If the perpetrators are caught and no action is taken, Thailand will lose its international credibility.
When asked whether she was worried about resistance to cutting off electricity to Myanmar, Pei Tongtan seriously answered, "I am not worried." Regarding whether the electricity could be cut off immediately, she replied, "It can be cut off immediately."
When asked again whether a specific time had been determined for the electricity cutoff, Pei Tongtan said, "Starting from today, if the investigation confirms solid evidence, we must take immediate action." She further revealed that she had instructed the National Security Council to notify the local electricity companies and would convene an emergency meeting according to the Prime Minister's instructions. If all parties are ready, the meeting will be held within the day.
