AGAE (Alliance of Gaming and Entertainment) has successfully completed its inaugural World Mahjong Tour (WMT) Junior Championship, held at the HyperX Esports Arena in Las Vegas.

The tournament featured over 150 participants, divided into three rounds, with the top four players receiving cash prizes.

The championship aimed to promote Mahjong as a structured competitive sport, bringing together players of different levels.

AGAE, which manages the World Mahjong Tour, plans to expand the series next year by adding more tournaments, themed events, and digital participation opportunities.

AGAE CEO Chen Yinghua commented: "Our first World Mahjong Tour event attracted significant participation and enthusiastic responses, reaffirming our vision to create a vibrant, interconnected Mahjong community. Mahjong has a rich cultural history, and through such events, our goal is to elevate it to a global experience, uniting players through fun, competition, and tradition."

It is reported that the World Mahjong Tour aims to provide players with a structured, accessible platform, combining live events with digital components to encourage broader participation.

It is worth noting: the expansion of Mahjong in a competitive format aligns with broader industry trends, where traditional games are adapting to the global esports scene.

In March 2024, AGAE signed an agreement with the World Poker Tour (WPT) and Wynn Macau to bring the WPT event to Macau for the first time, with AGAE responsible for marketing, production, and event management.

Future events from 2025 onwards are expected to build on the initial success of the Las Vegas tournament.
