The Swedish Gambling Authority, Spelinspektionen, has released the results of a survey conducted at the end of last year, which focused on the gambling habits of Swedes.
This survey, named "Public Opinion Poll," is conducted annually with the assistance of the research company Enkätfabriken.
The survey was carried out in November 2024, involving over 1,600 respondents. The results show that 71% of Swedes had gambled in the past 12 months, with 33% of players gambling weekly.
From a personal perspective, lotteries and digital games remain the most popular forms of gambling, with 84% of respondents indicating they had participated in these activities.
It is worth noting: Spelinspektionen has released new guidelines on anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing, as well as new risk assessments.
When asked whether gambling companies are responsible for gambling problems, 16% of people answered absolutely responsible, 55% said somewhat responsible, and 29% said not responsible at all.
66% of respondents are aware that the self-exclusion program Spelpaus.se is a way to opt out of gambling.
Another significant finding from the data is the motivations behind people's participation in gambling. The most common reason is for fun and entertainment, accounting for 69%, followed by the desire to win big money, at 40%.
In other news from Sweden, the operator Svenska Spel announced its Q4 and annual results for 2024 last week, showing a 10.3% increase in operating profit for the fourth quarter.
