The New York State Gaming Commission has released the first monthly betting amount data of the year, with sports betting in January setting a record of $2.48 billion.

In fact, this latest result surpassed the previous record of $2.32 billion set in October last year in New York, and it is the fifth consecutive month that the betting amount has exceeded $2 billion in New York State.
Moreover, these latest data bring the total expenditure of New York State for this fiscal year (from April 2024 to March 2025) to $19.5 billion. In comparison, the total expenditure for the last fiscal year (2023/24) was $19.8 billion, and with two months left in this fiscal year, this figure has almost been surpassed.
Compared to the same period last year, the betting amount in January 2025 increased by 23.9%, nearly $200 million more than the $2.28 billion in December 2024.
Monthly Gaming Revenue
As for the total monthly gaming revenue (GGR), the New York State Gaming Commission announced that the figure for January was $247 million. This represents a year-on-year increase of 15.7% and a month-on-month increase of 48.9%.
Interestingly, compared to the record-setting October 2024, which had a total gaming revenue of $176 million, November 2024's $231 million surpassed this figure. Nevertheless, this latest revenue figure is still the highest income figure released by New York State so far.
Overall, according to the latest GGR update of the fiscal year calendar, the total GGR from the beginning of the year to date has reached $1.8 billion, matching the total amount achieved in the entire last fiscal year 2023/24, with two months remaining.
Good news: Last month, New York State Senator Joseph Addabbo submitted a new bill to the Senate that would officially legalize iGaming in the state.
Leading Operators
FanDuel started the new year in New York State with strong momentum, achieving sports betting revenue of $965 million, the highest monthly income so far this fiscal year. Meanwhile, the highest total gaming revenue so far this fiscal year reached $111.3 million, bringing its total revenue for this fiscal year to $817.8 million.
In recent company news, last week FanDuel announced a major adoption of its new responsible gambling tools.
In January, FanDuel's performance in the state was closely followed by DraftKings Sportsbook, which had a betting amount of $837.9 million and revenue of $81.98 million. Last week, DraftKings announced the opening of a new sports betting shop in the Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana development area in Bossier City.
